I am in the middle of my super six conversion. I am going slowly and all has been going well so far. I was so excited. On my workbench sat the entire setup test fitted together and freshly painted. I spent a few days taking my time prepping my engine block cleaning the studs, replacing the broken ones. Then I went to test fit my freshly painted exhaust manifold and whatttt? it was almost 1/4 too short and would not fit on the damn block. I know that there is only one /6 block so I figured it had to be warped. One check of the archives on this bb and it was confirmed, those suckers are prone to warp more than the starship enterprise. I am so pissed. I was ready to finish the conversion this weekend and now arghhhhhh. I got the exhaust and intake from ebay with my other parts. I have scoured the local boneyards and no /6s anywhere. Anyone out there have a nice clean exhaust manifold for sale. I am looking for one with the 2 1/4 " exhaust, the new style flapper and new style choke pocket (I have a good choke to go on there that fits this style). I would also consider a header (where does the choke bolt up when you use a header?) or dutra duals (dont have the cash for them though) Advice appreciated, the right parts for sale at the right price appreciated even more. -Dr Wheelie [/img] |

As a suggestion, have you thought of trying to modify the existing manifold you have and adding the front half from the Dutra Duels article? Seems that is about the only solution for a warped manifold and you can still use the heat stove for cold weather warm-up and even run both pipes into one exhaust if desired. The problem of warped manifolds is quite prevalent for these engines, I've run into several with my cars. The next one will have Doug's front manifold on it. This, unfortunately is not probably a quick fix, but would be really neat. Good luck. Later. RMDV. |

That is an interesting idea I emailed Doug and I am sure he will suggest the same thing. I guess I just cut through my old manifold with a cut of wheel, no? Also, there is a nice mopar perf header on ebay right now that is unused. What is your opinion of that? Honestly, I live in Lousiana so we dont do much cold weather runnin. I have an open choke on the big block in my 70 roadrunner and it works fine. Thanks! DW |

DW, Yes, you can modify your old exhaust manifold per the article here on slantsix.org and you can run Dutra Duals. Headers would probably work fine for you as well. I prefer Dutra Duals myself because they don't hang down as low as most headers, and they will outlast any headers out there most likely. But either headers or Dutra Duals would work for you. |
