Post subject:  Holley 1920 linkage
Hi new to the forum here.

Just bought a new to me 68 plymouth valiant with a 225 /6 and getting it home I noticed the choke linkage had a washer on it preventing it from moving but leaving it open enough to still let some air in.

Anyways the question is am I missing part of the linkage or do I just need to move the pictured idle screw over to the other hole on that bracket, because as of now the screw doesn't come anywhere near the choke cam.

Any help would be much appreciated, this is actually my second /6 and car I have owned overall, the first one quickly got swapped for a 318, but this car will remain my daily, so I thought it would be interesting to mildly build up the /6, but I would like to first get it running correctly before swapping parts out.

Is that a Holley 1920?

When stone cold, if you depress the gas pedal to the floor, the choke should close fully. As soon as the engine starts (and develops vacuum), the choke pull off (vacuum pod) should pull the plate open a bit. As the engine warms, the choke stove (on the exhaust manifold) heats and the linkage should eventually open the choke plate fully.

It is indeed a 1920, my main question is, is that idle screw supposed to be in the hole to the right of where its at, like i said it doesnt even come close to the choke cam, hot or cold out.

Hard to tell from your pic..... but I believe you are missing the fast idle screw.

There should be 2 idle screws on most carbs.

One for curb idle when warm, and one that rides on the fast idle cam when choke is fully and partially closed.

There is a good view in the 1920 operation and control manual. Look at figure 18.
