When running a Edelbrock 500, how do you set up the kickdown rod and throttle cable? This is on a 63 Dart with pushbutton

Basically... you have to build some custom linkage.

Start with changing to a cable type gas peddle.
Next, you will need a special bracket to hold the cable at the carb.
Then make a throttle return spring bracket. (or find a Super Six bracket)
Now make a long rod, with a slotted screw type adjuster, that connects the carb's throttle to the kickdown "turn-buckle", low on the 63's firewall.

See the article below for some ideas & general photos.

Thank you very much. Could you do a cable set up on the kickdown also?

Yes that would be the way I would go. The Gearhead setup from E-bay has worked well for me. You will still need to fab up a simple bracket for up at the carb end.

Would you be able to send me a picture of your set up?

Oooo, Rick. I'd be very careful about what I'd buy from Gearhead Enterprises in Hudson, Iowa. Thier track record for customer service hasn't been exemplary.

I purchased from them 3 times and had absolutely no problems. Your results may vary? Plus there are other sellers on E-bay with what looks like the same cable.

Here is my set-up in the truck.

Back up to the previous page in the build and you can see some pics of the transmission end

Edelbrock carb requires a Chrysler adapter to attach Torqueflite kick-down cable providing correct cable travel in relation to throttle cable travel, and here is an easy off the shelf throttle cable bracket solution which a kick-down cable bracket can be attached.

This cable is the same one would find on a rear wheel drive Tirqueflite equipped truck that is packaged with all the mounting hardware for plug & play installation for those that don't want to go junk yard diving.

See instructions here for cable operated throttle and kick down conversion.

I have this set-up on my Holley 390 4v, it installed in minutes, adjusted in no time, and has been trouble free since 2008. I is a bit expensive, but provides correct geometry between throttle and kick-down operation.

Great information! As far as the gas pedal, do I get a new one that is cable operated?

Generally speaking one would use a cable connected pedal from a 1967 on up. I don't know why minivans, K cars, trucks etc. pedals wouldn't work. Cable length needs to be taken into consideration. In other words most any Mopar pedal would probably work pre fly by wire, you just need to locate a close enough length cable.

For instance the pedal on my 82 LeBaron would probably bolt right in, but where it has a transverse mounted 2.6 engine with its carburetor just inches from radiator that cable is about two feet too long to use on a slant.

One would have to adapt a universal cable, or locate a new or used A body cable; I think V8 cables are a bit shorter. Using a Mopar cable in conjunction with the parts I listed above in a previous post will install with no fiddling or diddling around cobbling up a contraption, it will bolt right up just like it was from the factory.

My cable came with the car, I had to form a loop in it between fire wall and carburetor and don't know if it as a slant cable or a V8 cable. I had to shim about 1/4th inch under the pedal's lower edge mounting base to get full WOT articulation of Holley throttle plates even with Holley Mopar adapter, the transmission throttle pressure / kick-down cable sync up just fine.
