The small square hole in the center is to clear the oil pickup tube.
What is the large square hole for?

I guess, the next question is, did I put the dang thing on correctly?
I am assuming a clockwise engine rotation (looking at the engine from the front).

One hole is the pickup, other is for dipstick.

Does the engine rotate clockwise when looking at it from the front?
I am fairly certain it does, but it's just something I never paid enough attention to.
