Post subject:  64 Dodge Dart... jumps when put into drive

Hi... Now that I have my new tires & rims on my 64 Dart convertible, I'm onto my next issue, and I could use some advice. When I put my car in gear... it's an automatic push button trans... so when I put it into drive... the car
jumps forward a bit. At first I thought maybe it was idled too high... adjusted the idle higher & lower... no change. I've now been told by a local fellow that
Dodge push button trans. are famous for this... he said it could be a bad universal joint... or the cables/linkage for the push button trans. might need to
be adjusted. I don't know where to start... I am mechanically able to do
quite a bit... so I'd love to hear any ideas or suggestions. I'm sure I'll
have some further questions, as I learn more about the car... thank you! -Mike

Hi Again... Has anyone out there experienced the clunking issue I
described in my 1st post? I would really appreciate some advice or direction
in which to start. I wanted to dig into it today, and just start figuring it all out, but 8 inches of snow in Brookfield, NH stopped that!!! Thanks! -Mike

Bad u-joint will cause a loud clunk when you put it in gear. A bad mount can also cause it. I would check u joints first. Shake them back and fourth up and down

Is the fluid level correct ? , Mine hesitates after selecting gear then pops into gear , Mine has set for quite a while and I don't run it enough ,might just need basic servicing. ( 1963 Valiant Wagon-push button automatic )

Hi all... thanks for your replies! Now I have a few things to check. If & when we get some good weather here in NH... I'll get out & check everything, and I will
report back to everyone. Thank you all sincerely for the advice! -Mike
