I have replace the slant in my 67 dart with a motor dated 64. Apparently the oil pans are different in these years and now my centerlink is hitting when I turn. A mechanic friend suggested I replace it with a V8 as it has a longer drop. Is this accurate info and are there different styles of links throughout the years. I hate to pull this out again just to change the pan. The 67 motor was a grimy beast that had about 30 seconds before throwing a rod. Any help is appreciated.

You need(ed) to swap the oil pan and pickup from your '67 engine onto the replacment engine. There is one and only one kind of centre link on '67 Darts; there is no different/deeper one for V8 cars—that was just on '64s, the first year for V8 availability; for '65 the deeper-drop V8 link was specified for all cars, though some '65 6-cylinder cars might've come through with the shallower link. That's all academic, though, because the '63-'66 centre link does not work on a '67 car.

Out comes the engine.

Thanks Dan. I was hoping that wasn't the case but had a feeling.... It looks like your having fun telling me the motor comes out.

I think Dan was just being expedient, saving you some time by cutting to the chase...😊

Nope, no fun at your expense from me. I don't envy you having to pull the engine again—in fact I sympathise, having done all too many long and difficult jobs only to realise afterward that I'd forgot something or screwed something up and have to have a big do-over. :-(

Also remember the pickup tube is different and will also need to be swapped out and new ones are not available so clean up and reuse your old one.
