Greetings, my '64 Valiant gas tank is pretty rusty inside. I'm thinking of replacement. Does anyone have any experience or wisdom on the subject? Sources? I noticed while looking on ebag and Amazon that none of the tank pictures showed a vent nipple near the filler neck inlet. My tank has a nipple there which connects to a vent tube tied to the top of the filler neck just inside the fender. I couldn't swear my existing tank is original. And my filler neck has been brazed at some point in the past. No idea if that part is stock either. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Neil |

Yours is a '63, is that right? Did the tank you bought have a nipple for the vent near the filler neck? And is there a nipple at the top of the filler neck (in the trunk)? Thanks |

I bought one off eBay for my 1964 Dart GT, but the vent tube is on the filler neck, not the tank. Replace the tank strap and filler neck gasket (at tank) when you do the job. (also gasket at sending unit, but I replaced my sending unit at the same time!) |

Mine is like the Wildcat picture, but you would be very hard pressed to get fuel to come out of it! It is just a Breather, and bends well above the filler neck! |

Replace it all while you're in there, if you can. Even the sock (inlet screen). Eventually you'll have to, and it's easier to do it all at once. And any rubber fuel line between the tank and the carburetor. Oh, and mind the ground strap between the sender and the hard line. Replace that, too. |

I discovered the filler neck grommet (small, for 1 3/4" filler necks)(4002010) is still an active number available from your local mopar dealer. I wish I had tested the sender/gauge position before I installed the new sender. Then I would have a better idea as to fuel level/needle position. One thing for sure, when the needle stops moving... the car stops moving shortly thereafter. |
