Post subject: | Turbo 225 with power steering? |
Hello , I have been following along with slant turbo builds for awhile. I have decided that i too want to run a "J" pipe pishta set-up, and get in on all the fun. Thus far i have only a super six intake manifold, and a holley 500 cfm carburetor which will be converted to blow thru operation. The other night i was compiling a list of things to do , leading up to the turbo upgrade, ie battery relocation, ameter delete, etc... When it occured to me in order to make room for the turbo, that the fuel line will require relocation, a-la , slant six Dan mod, as well as transmission cooler lines will also need to be re-routed. Staring me in the face are the power steering box, pump, and of course the pressure and return lines. I am thinking that both rubber lines will need to be lenghtened, so as to protect them with better routing. A heat shield may also be fabricated. Question: can a turbo live in the same confines with the power steering? Would prefer to retain p/s. Thanks for your comments |

Maybe have some custom PS lines made in a material that can deal with the heat....but I would definitely shield them as well. |

You may use an electrical power steering pump, they can be placed where you prefer. One advantage is that they are delivering full pressure when you really need it, at low speed, and some are set up to give lower pressure at higher speed, for better feedback and road-feel. I am old Toyota have some good ones, they should be low priced at your local scrapyard. Olaf |

Olafla, Thankyou for that tip. I never thought of doing something like that. I have a good salvage yard not far from me, the old style where they allow a person to walk around and look, pull his own parts. I am going to find out more. Thanks, Russ |

For an even cleaner look under the hood, you can do a column-mounted EPAS system from a donor car like a Saturn Vue. http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/mod-c ... 114?page=1 I picked up the column I'm using at a U-Pull-It for $45 |

My power steering lines live under my turbo header and are wrapped with header wrap they don't make direct contact so they have been fine for years of daily driving in my setup. Kev |
