Post subject:  Leaking Carter BBD looks like under bowl or accel pump ?
I have a small but very worrisome fuel leak which seems to be from the bowl of the carb but may be at fuel inlet. The car does require a lot of cranking if it sits for a day or so. Is it usual for the intake manifold around the carb to look moist. I don't see anything actually dripping but the intake itself is moist. I have tried tightening the bowl screws. The carb has been rebuilt within the last couple of months. It also appears that maybe the leaking is around the accelerator pump on the top of the bowl? The car is a 1964 Valiant 225 with automatic trans.

That is a BBS, not a BBD, and it is probably leaking from the throttle shaft area.

Mine regularly puked out the top of the accelerator pump shaft.

Probably related to the heat soak issue of parking a hot car and boiling the fuel in the float bowl.

Mine always required long cranking after sitting, as well.

I never tried a heat shield, but they gotta be of some benefit. If you try one, be sure to post results.

Absolutely. Run a thick carb base to manifold gasket, install an aluminum or phenolic shield (you will have to make your own), do the fuel line mod and reroute the fuel line over the valve cover instead of up the front of the engine by the exhaust manifold, and heat soak problem will be lessened.
