Novita EL12 Flasher
I am looking at replacing my Flasher and searches of old post list the Novita EL12 Flasher as being a good/loud replacement! Is this still true? or is there something better? and possibly not made in China

Well it is not very LOUD, and the jury is out on if it was made in China (only says "Assembled in USA")  The packaging is a Lie!

It will be good and loud when you put it where it belongs, anchored to the back of the dashboard. If it's just hanging in the air back there, no flasher will be very loud. |

No. Wrong again. It is mounted correctly in the holder. (between the ignition switch and the ashtray) The housing of the EL12 is plastic, the one I replaced was metal.(aluminum)

Then I guess you're going deaf! :shrug: Seriously, the EL-12 is a whole LOT louder than the metal-can thing you took out. If you're not going deef, then I'm still suspicious of your flasher bracket/attachment setup. The EL-12 is not easy to install in the factory bracket; it just barely fits and you really have to push hard to get it to go. And the bracket has to be clipped securely to its square hole in the dashboard, usually in the ashtray area. |

I may be Bald and Blind, but I'm not deaf yet. The clip is securely fastened and it is a PITA to put the EL12 in it. Strange thing is that it (EL12) is loudest when not in the bracket, but just sitting on the metal part of the dash

Try removing the flasher from the bracket, rotating it about 90°, and reinserting it. The plastic "can" of the EL-12 is firm but not rigid, and the hard squeeze of the bracket can squeeze the can inward enough to muffle the armature's "click". There are louder flashers than the EL-12, but they're commercial-duty items that cost an amount that most of us would consider ridiculous for a turn signal flasher. There are other ways of amplifying the click; if you want it loud enough to make dead soldiers stand up and march to the beat, get a Ford-style starter solenoid (cheap no-name unit like this is fine). Tap into the output wire coming off the "L" terminal of the flasher and run the new tapwire to one of the solenoid's small terminals. Ground the other small terminal. Secure the solenoid firmly to a metal part of the dashboard. Now the solenoid will go CLICK! CLACK! CLICK! CLACK! in time with the turn signals. Those linked taps are super keen. If you'll get this assortment you'll surely find uses for them (they're one of those products that you buy for a particular project, but then other uses for them keep popping up in front of you once you have them). |
