Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've posted here. I got my ride running and legal a bit ago. Lots of little probs, but nothing critical. My corroded muffler dropped out on me last week. Anyone know of an inexpensive(less than $50) replacement that will bolt right up to the factory exhaust? I have a shop quoting me $150 for a muffler, small extension and hangers. Performance is not an issue. I'm just trying to keep cost down. Any info is appreciated. Thanks again for all of your help. |

Summitt Raisin makes a great $39 muffler. I have one on my DeSoto (3" in 3" out) that I put on as a temp while I built the car and I like it so much that it stays. Way quiet. |

Thanks for the reply. My inlet is 1.5" and out is 1.75". Seems like an oddball design which is going to require some modification to work, so I think I'm just going to take it to the place and have them do it. Thanks again. I appreciate your time. |

Are you sure? That's not the way it's supposed to be—the headpipe should be 1.75", too—and it's costing you a big chunk out of what should be your fuel economy (i.e., it's costing you money every time you start the car). Maybe you meant the inlet is 1.75" and the outlet is 1.5", which is still not quite right but better than the other.$150 for a muffler, installed, is an excellent deal. There will be some pipe involved, you already know this, and there will be labor, which isn't (and shouldn't be) free. Keep in mind this is a life-safety issue that needs to be done right to avoid killing you and/or others. Also keep in mind it probably won't be very easy to find an exhaust shop that'll welcome you with open arms if you bring in your own muffler that you found somewhere else for $10 less than they want to sell it to you for. But if you do find such a shop, here is a muffler very close to the original in all dimensions. |
