Post subject:  reverse lamps

Reverse lamps absolutely work. I crossed the brake light power to the Reverse lamps and they illuminate. Now the problem is: no reverse light power at wires in the rear... I replaced the neutral safety switch...the netrual safety switch is getting power (2 months ago when I tested it) all of the wires and plugs from the neutral safety switch are getting power all the way up to the firewall and firewall plug. I tested the backside of the firewall where the wires all plug into...all seems to get power.....The rear lights plgsug wire at kick panel (left side of drivers foot) does seem to get power at the violet and red wires....this should send power to the reverse lamps....but, on the rear, the violet wires are not getting power....! I checked all of the plugs and connections from the firewall forward towards the gas tank plugs and everything seems fine. Is there a ground problem I missed?

Is there a reverse switch in the steering column that needs replaced? bad, connection, etc?
If needed I will eventually replace the power wire from the neutral safety switch all the way back to the rear, unless there is a switch on the steering column I can't find..... pl,ease help me.

Well somewhere between seeing voltage at kick panel and back-up lamp holders the conductor is compromised. That back-up light wire is bundled with all the other conductors that feed everything from kick panel down stream to the bumper.

I suspect there is a pinched wire, and or one poorly crimped brass connector that may conduct when being manhandled during testing, and quit once unhanded.

You probably need to pull up the door sills & edge of carpet, rear bottom seat cushion and follow along driver's side of trunk exposing this bundle of wires looking for damage. You may have to unravel the vinyl wrapping to better see what's going on.

The other fix would be to disconnect the dead section of harness feeding these lights without all the tedious examination, and install a new jumper conductor wire tied to factory loom bridging the problem.
