| Post subject: | Vacum Brake Boost to Hydro Boost Upgrade |
I discovered my new vac power boost on my 86 D-100 is defective. I know of a hydro boost upgrade to the heavier Dodge D-250,350 trucks but was wondering if anyone has done this to a D-100 /6 powered truck. If you have made this upgrade where did you source the hydro boost unit and were you able to use your existing master brake cylinder. Thanks |

Ugh. Giant amount of work for, at best, no practical benefit. The problem isn't that vacuum power brakes are dumb, it's that you have a faulty booster. The solution isn't to rip out the vacuum power brake system and install hydroboost, it's to, um, obtain a booster that isn't faulty. Check with Dewey, who has been doing an excellent and craftsmanlike job of brake booster refurbishment for many years. Parts store "remanufactured" boosters, like other "remanufactured" parts, are very often garbage right out of the box or shortly thereafter. |

Thanks Dan,you are correct "garbage" re manufactured parts. I put the booster and master cylinder on as a unit. It did not operate correctly from the beginning but I did not pursue the issue. Anyway, I will contact Dewey about his boosters which will be a much simpler repair. Thanks |
