Post subject:  Which shocks and green bearings to buy?

I received a full set of disc brakes for my 1970 challenger for Christmas and I'm finally looking into replacing my drums.

After reading the instructions for the rear, Wilwood recommends replacing the green bearings. I figured while I'm at it, the shocks may as well get replaced too.

I'm at work all day but I get to sneak online sometimes so I figured I'll ask a few questions.

My rear end is 8 3/4"....... 2881489 is stamped on my rear end, and my brakes are 11" drilled and slotted discs by Wilwood.

What green bearings and shocks should I order?

Wilwood is recommending switching TO green bearings, right? Dr. Diff should be able to fix you up.

Dr. Diff is the man. Get the snap ring type, which I think are the ones he sells.

Make sure to either remove the center block in your 8.75" carrier so the axles don't butt against it when you install the green bearings, OR grind down your axle shafts to avoid butting and side loads on the bearings. I am pretty convinced this is why the bearings fail for many people.

Here's two other sources for rear end bearings, gears, and axles but I'm not sure what they currently carry for Mopars.

As far as shocks go, if you are doing basic cruising, KYB Gas shocks are a decent option . If you are doing spirited cornering, I would look into adjustable Koni's or Bilstein's . Summit Racing is one good source for these.

I called Summit and ordered front and rear KYB shocks and their Yukon green bearings.

Last night I was looking at some Road Kill Garage Episodes that got me motivated to get this done!

If you have installed the KYB's, disregard this link, if they are still returnable, here are a few different viewpoints:
