Post subject:  The right distributor

I am deleting the Lean Burn system in my 86 Ram. I have ordered a Holly 1945 from National Carburetors, and will be going to the Pick N Pull tomorrow to get the necessary items to complete an HEI swap. However, I can't seem to figure out which distributor to buy.

I am currently at Napaonline.com. And have found 3 different options, but all them look the same.

Option #1: https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NR ... 0194706969 $144

Option #2: https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NR ... 0194695330 $144

Option #3: https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NR ... 0194709710 $71

I know that I need the vacuum advance, as well as the single pick up, right? Any help is appreciated.

Save yourself the aggravation of the poor quality of "remanufactured" distributors and get a brand-new Chrysler distributor from Old Car Parts Northwest as described in the HEI upgrade article.

While you're at it, rather than the 1945 carb you'd be happier with a Carter BBS for a 1974 Dodge D100 pickup.

Post subject:  Yep...

I bought a couple of WAI "new" distributors off Rockauto to see what made them tick... and they are the same quality as getting a Cardone reman (but come with a cheap rotor and cap, too...

FYI, the couple I got have the same governor and curve as the 1973-1975 distributors, the vacc pod is a 20 degree special like the cardone units have...

So like Dan said (and then some), the NOS distributor would be a better bet, and you know what you are getting... the "new" units are not any better than the reman units... FYI...

A sincere thanks to you both for the sage advice. I will contact Old Car Parts NW tomorrow.

Dan- Regarding the carb, you had the same advice in a previous post, so I asked for a BBS when I ordered. Unfortunately, they did not have one available. Thanks again.
