Post subject:  Calling truck owners!

Anybody out there own a shortbed 72-up D100/150 equipped with a 904 and a 9.25 rear axle? If so, any chance you could measure the length of your driveshaft from center of u-joint to center of u-joint for me? I am switching my truck from a 727 to a 904 and would like to have the new driveshaft ready to install on the day of the swap.

Thanks!

Post subject:  From the DC race manual

From centerline of front u-joint to centerline of rear u-joint should be 3.5" less than measuring from rear of transmission extension to centerline of rear axle yoke (u-joint seat).

I'm sure you know this...but, remember the front yoke is different.

My post was put in so if you don't find a drive shaft, you can make one.

Thanks. I have a new front yoke and extra driveshaft already. The 904 driveshaft should be longer than the 727 shaft, right? So measure the 727 shaft and add 3.5 inches?

The first post by me was if you have no drive shaft, with the vehicle sitting at curb height and ready to install drive shaft, the u-joints one the shaft should sit 3.5" shorter than from end of tail shaft to center of rear u-joint on the pinion yoke.
In other words; measure between the end of installed transmission tail housing (not tail shaft) to the center of the pinion yoke (rear u-joint center in effect) and the u-joints on the new driveshaft should be 3.5" shorter than that.
The 727 trans. is about 4.2" longer overall but I don't know the difference in the yokes.
