Post subject:  Distributor gasket?

For the distributer, the engine gasket kit gave us a gasket but it seems like it should be a o ring instead based on what the block looks like....

We had only the squared off o ring on the shaft when we pulled the distributor...

We don't have a new squared off, was gonna reuse for now....

The block looks like it needs a o ring...

And the gasket in the Victor reinz engine kit is a thick squared off gasket......worried it will have the distributor up too high...

That item is for something else, there should be a large round O ring that fits on the shaft that fits the bezel... that being said, there are lots of slants on the road without them....

Round-section O-ring is correct at that location. The engine will run fine without it, but you'll get less oil leakage/seepage with it.

Thanks guys.

It seems that the Victor Reinz gasket kit my builder used has a bunch of gaskets that arent used on mine......and it doesnt have the big o ring at all.

Anyone know the size/dimensions of the proper o ring ? I assume I can get one at the hardware store....if I take the distributor with me....a bit of a pain.

Looking online and cant seem to find one to order...even rock auto.

I just did mine and had the same issue. I reused the old square one and for the round one, I went to harbor freight and bought a small box of assorted o rings for about 4 bucks. Tried a couple sizes until I found one that fit and didnt drip oil.

Post subject:  o-rings

Go to www.mcmaster.com

they'll have any O-ring you can imagine and many you can't. I got mine there, sorry I didn't keep the part # in mind.

Post subject:  I remembered...

The big fat o-ring at the top is an R19, and the one (actually you can fit 3) on the shaft is a standard #33 o-ring you can buy at any hardware store.

Clarification, you can fit 3 on the wide slot on the shaft like you have, some distributors have a narrow shaft that only holds a single o-ring.
