Nice score! I love slant six vans. I think you got good deal that just needs a little work to be a good daily driver. Don't stress the headliner, it is easy to make one out of whatever material you want. With some basic hand tools and creativity you can do whatever you want to the interior of your van. Get that solenoid installed propelry and see if your engine problems don't improve. |

That carb is either a Holley 1945 or a Holley 6145. I would need to see a picture of each side of the carb to tell you which. |

I'm going to say it is a 1945 but it has an old "remanufactured" sticker on it. Dying after running for a few minutes sounds like either or both a vacuum leak and/or a problem with the curb idle circuit. It sounds like the choke keeps the engine running while it is onand the engine either leans out when the choke comes off or the curb idle speed screw is not set up properly. The first thing I would do is get that idle stop solenoid screwed back in position and set the curb idle speed properly (if possible). If that doesn't work, I say it is stime to rebuild that carb. Disassemble it, clean it, new gaskets, and adjust it. The see if it won't idle. |
