| Post subject: | Carter BBD manual/auto trans difference |
I just found out that I bought a Super 6 Carter BBD for a manual trans but I have a automatic. What are the difference between those 2 setups? Are there only different jets? Or is the metering rods also different? I bought the BBD because my Super 6 2280 running lean and I cant find jets for the 2280. Don't want to run lean especially when I'm soon going to put my Slant with higher comp and RV10 cam. BBD have new jets to buy and I have better luck tuning them so that's why I bought a new one. |

2280 jets are available in a wide range of sizes. Not at your friendly local auto parts store; you'll have to order them, but that's still your easier tune path. |

.....so as part of my never ending learning curve about the slant six.....and not wanting to hijack the thread but I have to ask... There is a difference between carbs for an automatic versus standard? Dan, the one I got from Mike....do you know if it one or the other? It has the "dashpot" as you called it...so does that mean its a standard carb? Why would there be a major difference?? |

Different calibration for optimal driveability with the different demands placed on the engine with the two types of transmission. Example: Cruising along at 45 mph, yank your foot off the accelerator. In an automatic car, the engine more or less freewheels. In a manual car, the engine is motorised by the wheels.

Walker makes them. http://www.walkerproducts.com/catalogs/ I think probably it's their 120-6 series, but probably best call them to find out for sure. You might also check with CarbsOnly http://carbsonly.com/ . |
