Ok , so i rebuilt my holley 1920, gave it a good cleaning, and then assembled it with the proper Hygrade kit, after blowing it out with compressed air. I was particular about setting the float height.
Wow , now the car runs like crap! Starting is next to impossible, but when finally warmed up, it seems to run ok. I do not believe that the electric choke is working properly. Need to look into that, its been very cold here lately.
Any thoughts? I know these 1920s are the most basic carbs out there.
Can float height be verified installed on the manifold? Just open the bowl?thanks, Russ

Just to answer your last question: check in the 4th sticky of the Engine Section ("Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Engine"), once there, look for the "Carburetor Operation and Repair Information" link, and there find the link for the Holley 1920 (1968-1969) model. Newer models have small differences, but in all you can measure the fuel level removing the Economizer Diaphragm Assembly, and measuring the distance from the top of the Assembly seat to the gasoline level as indicated in the manual. You will need to plug the hole that gives vacuum to the Economizer valve for the car to run smoothly (I've used a small rubber flat piece, the vacuum sucks it against the hole and seals it).

Unfortunately, for changing the level, I always have to remove the bowl cover (put something to catch the gas, and have a carb bowl gasket handy, I cut mine from a cork-rubber gasket sheet) and then access the float to bend the tab. Do not bend it seating/pressing the fuel inlet needle valve, you can damage it.

Yes thanks for the reply. Primarily i had a choke issue. Now corrected, the car starts with little effort, and is once again running smoothly. I have not yet taken it for a ride, but with a little more tweaking i will give it a go.
Choke was completely out of adjustment. Dont know why.
