Post subject: | '76 Volare wagon rear gears? |
Does anyone know what the rear gear ratio would probably be in a Volare wagon with a 318, 1976 vintage? I talked to a guy tonight who has a rusty but good running Volare wagon who might be parting it out. |

The 318 wagon torsion bars might also be stifer than the coupe 225 bars. Probably easier to just grab the whole K frame.... |

Probably 2.76. Check tag or spin and count. Search YouTube or elsewhere for the procedure. |

The factory put a small metal tag under one of the bolts holding the cover on the rear axle. With any luck, it is still there. My 79 Volare wagon (slant powered) had 2.9 rear gears. I believe 3.2 was the highest ratio available. More than likely, it is 2.76 or 2.9. |

In 1976 depending on the vehicle and the axle type ( 7 1/4", 8 1/4", 9 1/4")... Ratios available that year were 2.45, 2.71/2.76, 2.93/2.94, 3.21/3.23/ 3.55...1976 Aspen/Volare vehicles with the 7 1/4" Axle could be optioned with 2.76,2.94, or 3.23 - No sure grip in any ratio. 8 1/4" Axle: 2.45,2.71,2.94,3.21... and 3.55 in export vehicles... with 2.71, 3.21 and 3.55 could be optioned with a sure grip unit 9 1/4" not available this year for F body. In junkyarding I have mostly found that the F-body wagons were 2.94's... |

Thanks forthe replies fellas! I hope its a 2:76 or 2:94, we'll see. I have an 8 & 1/4 differential already in my Volare, but the 3:55 ratio is not real practical for me. |

2.94 would be good for all around driving, make sure to get the speedometer gear too to match it... |

These cars are definitely like the late A body...1976 lists only one Torsion bar in the parts manual for standard and HD packages as 4052526-7 Oddly in 1978 for Aspen/Volare/LeBaron/Diplomat the part number is listed as 4015142-3 regardless of package.... That being said... in the 1976 manual there are differences in the part numbers for the rear springs between the packages and isolators... |

I always wondered about that. I knew the rear springs could be four or five leaf, but I never found any info about the torsion bar differences. Oh, yeah- Wes should grab the leaf springs and shackles and shock mounts if they are in better shape than his current ones. |

Could be anything from 2.41 - 3.21 I My 79 Aspen wagon California car Survivor has 2.41's... Great on the Highway! Needs a four barrel to get out of a parking spot on a hill! |
