Does anyone have a picture of a 3 speed "Charmed snake shifter"? Maybe a pic of 1 installed?

hi gonzo- had a shifter just like that in a 61 valiant. only difference was the shift knob was smaller and more rounded than the 60 which i think that picture depicts. also the factory boot was not on the tunnel but right next to tunnel on the flat floor. the bend fit right against the seat cushion . seemed to lay right there. one of the easiest shifting trans and linkage i have seen. would easily go into first which was non synchro while rolling if you double clutched it . same shifter was used in early 60s full size chryslers if you ordered it with a manual trans. they were very rare. only ever saw one. just my 2cts. bob f

Not what you're looking for, but since that shifter appears to have a uniform diameter and the business end is hidden by the boot, couldn't you have someone make one out of the appropriate rod, thread it, harden it, and chrome plate it? Recreate it from the picture, that is, seems like that's not too far a stretch.

I've never seen one, do the curves all fall into a single plane or does it also bend to the right or left, out of plane of the picture?

hi dees and 270- that picture of the nos shift knob is exactly the one that was on my 61 valiant, but it is listed as for the 60 valiant. in 62 the car looked the same but the shifter moved to the column meaning 60 and 61 had the same knob. how do we explain the different knob on the shifter in the first picture? might have been an aftermarket knob or from a rare full size mopar with a manual floorshift . only one i saw was the early 60s chrysler.that model had the same nos knob pictured on a snake shifter. early 60s big dodge(seneca)and plymouth( savoy, belvedere) had a column shift if manual trans. any knowledgeable explainers of this anomaly? bob f

That is entirely likely.

Wellllll...not necessarily. A variety of interior details changed between early- and late-production '60 Valiants, and a bunch more changed for '61. Multiple different horn button ornaments, at least two and possibly three kinds of park and heat lever knobs, at least two kinds of radio knobs, etc.

That first picture is from the 1960 Valiant brochure. It's not a photograph, it's an artist's rendering. Many, many details are not true-to-life in artist renderings in that (and most other) brochures, and there are a lot of other such "errors" in that same '60 Valiant brochure. The alternator's wrong, the valve cover's wrong, etc. So one likely answer to this question is that for whatever reason (artistic license, artist had to work from a pre-production prototype or mockup), it's not an accurate representation of what was actually on the car. Another likely answer to this question is that what's pictured is an early-production gear knob, and your '60 was a late-production car, and the knob was different (can't check right now; my '60 Valiant FPC isn't where I am).

I have a "Charmed Snake" style shifter that I removed from a 1960 Valiant. I will send pics to anyone who cares to post them. (I am also willing to part with it for a reasonable sum!)

That charmed-snake shifter really is one of those design features that goes in my "Wish we had more things that looked like this now" file. That file also has a lot of milk trucks, delivery vans, school buses, small and big trucks, mixers, vacuum cleaners, and other stuff in it.
