For a slant six to be mounted on an engine stand. Anyone know the size? |

Use caution as motor is extreamly unbalanced I ended up with the 2 legged stand with support rods down to stand legs I would recommend a few buddies there when you want to rotate the motor |

I use grade 8 bolts and those even get bent some. I use a Harbor Freight engine stand, it seems plenty strong enough. I did use a longer pipe handle to make rotating the engine easier for one person, my handle is about 3 feet long (the one that comes with it is only maybe 18" long or so,way too short for much leverage). Size will be dependent on what holes in the block you use... I typically set the prong up to use 2 of the upper bolt holes into the block, and the outboard arms through the lower holes/ears on the tombstone, which would require a longer bolt with nuts and washers at both ends...you can adjust the center of the prong to have a better center and balance for the engine... at least until the head and manifold are on it... You should use a washer at the head of the bolts and they will take the load of the engine better, I have yet to bend a grade bolt... I have 3 harbor freight engine stands that I bought back in the 90's and they originally held mid-70's 400 big blocks....make sure to use a 4 wheel stand not the 3 wheel... |
