Dear Slanters,

Anyone want to come to Blacksburg, VA and work on a Valiant racecar all weekend (Dec 3-4)? Jason Ernst is bringing the new LeMons car (64 Val) to my shop and we are going to tear it open and upgrade everything...

Should be a hoot.

Looking forward to you getting that 64 upgraded so we can hit some autocrosses or track days... I am also working to get the 68 Dart up to snuff for that kind of action.

Cool ... Me too.

I am in the Process of securing a Cylinder Head for the Beast. I will pay more for it than I did for the whole car :-o

I will have to Post some Pics.

THe Front and rear Windshields are out and the Rear Window Channel Area Looks like a Demented Swiss cheeze Project now..

Nothing a Little Wire welding and some POR-15 cant fix!

Lots of holes behind the rear Bumper too!
...I better get back to welding!

Post subject:  three development weekends - done

Well, Jason and I ended up spending parts of 3 weekends (and weekday early morns and late nights) on the LeMons Valiant in my shop. What a blast. Jason left last night with a different car... Here is what we accomplished:

- cut out spare tire well, built mounts and installed 22 gal ATL sports fuel cell, covered open hole with alum sheet
- reworked seat mounts and used sparco sliders and I/O port adj seat back brace
- built entire new exhaust system from headers back; 2X2" primaries (all mandrel bent) into Y just ahead of the Xmember to 2.5" single, then muffler, then 90 deg pipe out behind the driver - sounds sweet!
- reworked sway bar mounts and installed bar with new bushings
- 1.14" torsion bars
- new strut rod bushings
- got engine started and tuned a little, new dipstick ("full" is 8qts even)\, custom oilpan
- worked on wiring to fix charging system, not quite done

This should perform quite well on the track and hopefully be reliable. More to do before the Skip Barber LeMons race Feb 3, but we should be in good shape.

Hey Lou,

Did you make it to the race 3 February? Might you need another driver in late 2017 and beyond...?

Rob,

Thanks for asking. We did make the Barber Motorsports Park race for 3 days of testing, racing, and wrenching. Car had some bugs still in it when we arrived and ran practice Friday, but by Sunday it was going quite fast -- well above mid-pack in lap times. It is as fast or faster than the BMW according to our last driver, who got the benefit of all our fixes in the last few hours of the race. It will get faster too.

It would be GREAT to have another driver (and car supporter). Let me/us know what is your timetable and new location when you know!!

Cheers,
Lou

I'm going back to Fort Knox, KY and should be there either late June or late July.

I'm looking forward to getting back to what I love. Slant 6 racing!! :D

That is good news Rob. Might we see a White Challenger on the circuit later in the 2017 season?
