Post subject:  Best temperature sensor location

Between the stock temperature sensor location in the head and installing a temp sensor in the thermostat housing, which is generally more accurate?

(1) head
(2) thermostat housing
(3) radiator

In that order.

Depends on what your trying to monitor exactly. Stock location is the hottest point and will show you the engine warming up.

In front of the thermostat (housing or rad) won't show you the engine warming up but once the system is stable it will be more or less the same as stock position.

For efi stock is ideal. For a gauge or electric fan operation it won't matter much.

We wanted to keep the stock idiot light and have the gauge as well.....had same question.

We had no available ports in the head......

So I got one of those adaptors that go inline in the top rad hose. Got it chesap on ebay........it was a mm size...... Had to drill and tap it to fit our particular sensor.....and the size I got seems a little tiny bit looser than ideal....but it seals up fine....works good once the car is heated up......so far at least.

The car hasnt seen any hot days yet but has been fine to date....60's down to 10 degrees.....
