Since people have been asking...
yes, I still have the 65 Belvedere I, and I am still building a racing slant six for it. After the head porting fiasco this year, I am taking it nice and slow with the (third) head. Short block is ready and waiting, same for the A904 trans. Rear suspension is ready to go. I am currently getting new bushings for the front suspension.

Here is the car waiting to swap places with a 72 Cuda in my shop. Body and paint wise, it looks like crap. I am getting a pair of rear quarter panels for it but I am not doing ANY body work/paint until I get some miles on this thing (a 1/4 mile at a time).

I have so many questions to ask you first one is what kind of Pistons are you using that's my biggest dilemma right now is finding Pistons they have to be custom-made 🤑🤑🤑🤑 I'm looking to get basically stock at 8.0:1 8.5:1 going to put a turbo on it. what kind of problems did you have with your head I was told by an engine builder to just radius where the intake/exahust comes to the cylinder about 1/2 radius and blend the other 3 sides. I'm doing fuel injection also

I milled both the head and the deck to get 11:1 static compression ratio with the factory pistons. I got a head with larger valves from a fellow slanter. After messing up not one, but two slant heads, I am a little gun shy about porting (first head I was careless, and well same for the second head, too). I am going back through the transmission and changing up a few things. I am also working on the front suspension (overhaul). My main goal is a solid running, dependable race car. I'll make it pretty later.

Having found the water jacket on a couple of slant heads, I feel your pain. You can go up and down in the ports with some meat removal. Side to side, don't do it! I think bigger valves would be the biggest improvement. A 1.88 intake and a 1.50 exhaust will fit in the head. I really do like your 65, good luck with your project.

Well, I have found out the hard way that you need to stay away from the area where the intake and exhaust ports are next to each other. The current head is getting 1.70I/1.44E valves. I have a set of valves that are bigger than these but I will save these for the second engine, one that will get a 3.5 inch bore (as soon as I find a source of pistons).

OK, no excuses now. I have all the transmission parts and I'm ready to assemble. The engine is done except for the head. The head only needs a .030 skim (is supposed to only take a day or so-at least that was the case with a Jeep head I took to them). Rear end/rear suspension is all done. Seats and tracks are ready but I have to weld in a patch to the floor behind the driver seat. Most of the electrical is done. I will install the shifter after the trans is in. I am dropping the K frame to replace the lower control arm bushings and the strut arm bushings (can't recall the exact name of that thing). Chassis and drive train are getting priority. My "would like" list is to hang the new quarter panels and paint, install the Lexan side windows, glass front bumper, SS interior (door panels, carpet, etc), an exhaust would be nice too, but we will see where things stand come May.
Git'r Done!!!

Great progress Matt! You can do it! And I like the look of the car as it is. Get it running and racing and then you can splash on some "pretty"

Minor setback with the transmission. One of the gears in the rear planetary apparently has been binding. You can tell which one in the picture, as that corner has turned blue from the heat. I did manage to get it freed up, but it now has a lot of play in it. It would probably work, but it is a lot noisier than the other three. Just to be safe, I ordered a replacement planetary set. I have enough other things to work on until the new gears arrive.

Transmission case is finished. Trans is now ready for reassembly. I hope to have this thing buttoned up by the weekend.

OK, moved the car over to the shop. Vacuumed the inside and trunk. Found some bad news in the trunk. Water leaked in and ruined what was left of the floor. Looks like I am giving AMD a call. The good news is that the interior floor, although also rusty, is solid enough for now. Just carpet and bolt the seats in.

Cut the floor out and weld in some braces for a fuel cell and rivet in a flat alum floor. You can run it like it is for M-D in a month. Just don't pop the trunk in tech...

Post subject:  Deja Vu all over again-65Belvedere I build

I ordered the new AMD trunk floor (dang thing costs as much as the interior floor-oof!). It really shouldn't be too difficult to install. I was worried about tech, especially with the battery back there. So rather than chance it, I am replacing it. I need to find some sheet aluminum to place where the rear seat used to be. I am really hoping to get enough done to race it at Mason-Dixon in May. It won't be pretty and might have some duct tape here and there holding it together, but the plan is still M-D in May.
