Is there any good way to add a drain plug to the transmission pan on a 904? I hate having to drop the pan to change out the fluid.

I braise a 1/2 20 nut to the pan, then drill through the center of the attached nut and then clean out the hole. You can then use a replacement oil pan drain plug.

Or you can go to the boneyard and look for a 904 pan with a factory drain plug, a lot of the later model pans had them.

The aftermarket deep pans (chrome ond non-chrome) have drain plugs.

And for the "meatball" mechanic, one buddy of mine would disconnect one of the trans coolent lines and stick a piece of rubber hose on the end, leading to a bucket or can. He would start-up the engine and pump-out most all of the fluid before dropping the pan. It works pretty good as long as you shut it off as soon as the fluid stops flowing!

What later vehicles had 904s? I may be spending quite a bit of time underneath the car tomorrow, so if I can find a place locally to get one today, I'll grab it.

And who makes the best overhaul kits? I found a Fram kit at Schucks but didn't want to grab it just yet.
