Hello gang!
I have been a long time reader of the forum, and learned tons of stuff!

I have recently got really interested in the history of my Valiant, bought in Linköping, Sweden the 7th of July 1961. I have managed to track down the 4 previous owners and been talking and e-mailing with two of them!

I am now trying to decode the numbers. Looking at the VIN-number I understand that the first 1 is for Valiant. The second one is for low priceline (V100), third 1 is for year 61. The fourth digit, 2, is for Dodge Main in Hamtramck. And from what I been able to read, the rest is serial number. (last three digits blurred since I have read about identity thieves!)

But then we have the Fender Tag that is more of a mystery to me. SO= produced 13th of april? Paint is definitely CC1, Valiant Light Blue. But how much I try to search the net, I can’t really find the answers to rest of the numbers….?

Here is my tag, 62 Lancer Wagon. No broadcast tag though. Perhaps we can compare equipment on yours and mine.

Mine originally had a 170 and a manual 3 speed. (Converted in the early eighties to 225 and push button automatic)
Dont think it ever have had any other options.

I do think I have read somewhere that there was a code for cars buildt for export, but I have been unable to find my way back to that text.

Since we both have numbers under A (1 in my case) and L (4 in my case) that might be the best place to start?

Great
Mine was missing engine, so 170 225?
Push button trans.
No outside mirrors.
AM Radio
Heater
White exterior, mono color
Red White interior, bench seat
Coat Hooks
Manual Rear Window
6 Pass Station Wagon

That is about all I do know.
Missing wheels and hub caps when I bought it.

Oh, have to add to my list, no outside mirrors, probably no radio. And living in Sweden it is easy to forget: heater! (No one would even concidering selling a car without heating here!)
Inside trim was the regular V100 silver/black.

ok, so I have a:
A-1
L-1
Q-5

You have:
A-4
L-4
Z-3

There is no doubt if I had a broadcast tag it would tell us a lot more.
We need to find a sheet and see what that says, it should explain the differences. Oh yea, mine has seat belt bolt plates on the floor so I think it safety belts on front bench.
