I have converted my 73 w100 360 to HEI. Once it is running it works. However I have a really hard time getting it to start. the engine only seems to "catch" when I let off the key. Any thoughts? |

I would think you are not getting enough power to the ignition. I relayed mine straight from the battery and she starts and runs great. |

Have you tried reversing the leads to the distributor? Did you remember to remove the ballast resistor and put a jumper in its place? |

I have already reversed the leads it did not help. I will try that again. I will check to see if I have power when the key is moved to start. |

Mopar stock ignition design has two circuits: "start" that supplies a full 12v to coil when starter is engaged; "Run" circuit is energized when key is in run position and ballast resistor is part of this stepping down 12v to 8v or so a level stock coil can live with. Only one of the two circuits is energized at any given time. If you are not getting light-off during starter engagement, that start circuit is not able to supply voltage to coil for some reason. I think you need to tie the run and start circuits together. |

I feel like an idiot. I did not wire the "start" wire to the coil/HEI. I had only run the ignition on wire. hooked up the start wire and it works like magic. |
