Post subject: | Please help with early A body Question |
I need some clarification on early A body car styles. A while back we did some early A body long tube headers. we never got to the bottom of it. 1965 Dodge Dart GT slant 6 powered. is that an A Body or Early A.Thanks in Advance.. Mark |

When it comes to header fit into USA made A-Body Mopars, there are actually 3 different A Body chassis types. 60-62 Valiant & Lancer ( R & S series in OZ) 63-66 Valiant Dart & Barracuda (VC & VP) 67-76 Valiant Dart Duster (VE & VF) DD |

So Doug, what you are saying is 60-62 Valiant & Lancer uses different headers than the 63-66 Valiant Dart & Barracuda ? 2 different styles would be needed ? our current headers fit this body style 67-76 Valiant Dart Duster regards Mark |

This also would include the 1971-1972 Demon and 1973-1976 Dart "Sport" that are Dodges counterparts to the Duster...These have wide engine bays that are suited to installing bigger V-8 engines (including big blocks)... The early and Mid-A like Doc has lined out has a narrower engine bay... these users use the Clifford shorty style headers... The difference being where the collectors terminate and the length of tubes... (late A- 67-76 down by the bellhousing where the V-8 low mount starter would be... and early A a bit higher than that...) If you are working on taking over that section of the market, you might see about getting a set of Shorties (not easy to find anymore) to replicate or help advance the design, or maybe someone can measure up the tube lengths/dimensions for you). |

Mark, those Clifford long tube headers I sent you fit the "A" bodies from 1960 to 1966. One set was for the 225 engine and the other set was for the 170 engine. The difference is the 170 engine has a exhaust manifold port that is approx 1.5 inches lower and is closer to the left side of the engine comprtment. |

The '63-'66 Australian Valiants are AP5, AP6, and VC.
