Just a heads up. I was building a slant six distributor, and couldn't find a gear in my stash. I called around, and no one in my town had one in stock. Autozone said "not available", others could get it, but 3-7 days out. Finally did find a new one in my "race box". I ordered 3 from Rockauto, to make sure I have some. Looks like they are becoming harder to get. I would suggest, for the price, for slanters to have one in stock, just like we used to do with ballast resistors.

Agree. During my 7000 mile trip in Oct the 65 new distributor gear got stripped by Michigan (900 miles). Called along my route and Amarilllo, Texas was the first one I found. The aftermarket dealer cheerfully allowed me to use his tools to repair the distributor. I then tried to find another spare along my next few thousand miles and didn't run into one until Boston, Mass.

Since then I have built up 3 spares....one to carry in my car, one to carry in my daughter's car, and one in the garage.

Autozone is just not the place for old car stuff, here Advance, or Baxters is the place to go... I buy them by the 10 bunch from Rockauto since they just drop ship that quantity from Dorman anyway.

On another note, some of the internal parts for the point distributors are getting harder to find as well and price is going up (ordered some items from Rock auto and only got half my order and said they couldn't get any more).

FYI...

We cut to a recent See-BS news broadcast now in progress:

And in other news stories coming up tonight: hording of Slant Six distributor gears is sweeping the nation; silver is expected to reach a second all time high in the near future; Pintos explode when rear-ended; and the Corvair is unsafe at any speed.

Thanks for the tip Charrlie.

I found some in my tool box the other day that were NAPA gears that were supposed to be iron, but came with plastic in the box. I still have one or two iron ones laying down at the shop.
