Is there such a thing as a car stereo that mounts somewhere hidden ? It would operate off a remote...or something. I have no room in the dash for even a teeny stereo.....but lots of space in more remote parts of the car. |

I had a small am/fm radio, amp and a 10 disc cd player mounted in a 50mm ammo can that ran off a remote in an el camino I used to have. It was directly behind the passenger seat, opposite the spare tire. I mounted the ammo can to the floor, so nobody would steal it! Had a radio delete plate in the dash. I sold it with the car, and I believe it was the determining factor in the sale, when I showed the buyer the remote and how it worked. ![]() |

Is this for the Desoto? What features might you be looking for? I got one of these for my "T". https://www.rocktheboatmarinestereo.com/html/62087.html and there's knock-off available, too. https://www.rocktheboatmarinestereo.com/html/80357.html Mounts in a 3" round hole. The Jensen has a remote USB port available, so that you can carry your favorite tunes on a flash drive and plug in when you're cruising. Maybe you could whip up a console of sorts under the dash? Sandy, does your DeSoto have (or have space for) an original radio? If so, there's this. (Stereo? You don'need no steekeen' stereo, you need a louder exhaust system.) ![]() |

We mounted a 2 din stereo in our 75 Dart by hanging it under the dash, strapped to the bottom surface of the dash with a metal strap. The back is supported with another metal brace. It kind'a looks like the beginnings of a center console. We are old: AM/FM, CD, and CASSETTE! (No USB yet). ![]() |

This is for my Desoto....the exhaust is very quiet....at least on the inside. The dash looks like this: ![]() Its full of a big heater , efi computer....DRL module,,, There is not even enough room for the 1 DIN very nice stereo that goes with the wiring harness. The dash curves toward the firewall at the bottom....so there is no under the dash I wish to install a player under the package shelf...and control it remotely. Roger: that lil Boss radio looks very cool. |

I have a feeling the remotes are IR (infrared) rather than RF (radio frequency) which would negate having a remote with a hidden receiver......... |

What's that on the dashboard to the right of the shift stick, visible through the steering wheel? |

That photo is a stock Desoto. That's the stock 6v radio....its 2 pieces that weigh about 50 lbs. I removed it to make room for puters and heater, I can make a space behind that dash radio opening that is too small for any radio I can find. I can only get 3-4" depth. Believe me.....no room in the dash. no radio,,,,no ashtray. I may be able to put a tiny one like Roger linked above the windshield ... |

![]() Here is another view of a stock dash. Behind the radio head is the electric windshield wiper. The big part of the radio is behind the grille under the radio head. I have removed the radio head and the amp/speaker to make room for the EFI computer and the 40,000btu heater. They are things I need....and they need to be where they are. |

Is that a clock, just to the left of the glove box door? If there's some space behind it, and you're willing to do without the clock, that marine stereo might just fit right there. It only requires a 3" hole, and you could probably fashion a mount plate to fit where the clock is. Roger |

If I understand this correctly, the only thing left of your radio is the dial and knobs. This might still be enough to operate the FMR-1 tuner as it's just a small circuit board and can be mounted remotely.![]() ![]() |
