Hey guys, I'm hoping the collective genius of the board can help me identify an engine block I picked up. A guy put a post on craigslist for a free slant six out of a 65 d100 if someone was willing to come get it. I have a 74 dart and a 77 volare with slant six's so I decided to take him up on the offer. The block is missing the VIN tag. It looks like it's been modded with a super six intake and 2 barrel carter carb. I can't find the serial on the block where I understand it should be(under the #1 cylinder). The number I can find is on the water pump side at the freeze plugs. The number is 330-2 6 18 24. I have found references to 330-3's being an 80's model slant six. I've looked at the engine serial lists on this forum and those numbers listed are nowhere near this. Does anyone have any wisdom for me on this engine? |

Given the information you have given the story is probably going to play out like this: Previous owner of '65, blew the original engine up in the past... got a another to put in it's place... probably got a free cast crank late one ("330") back when guys who wanted a V-8 in their truck were giving these away... Freeze plug side will be the part/casting number. The pad under the #1 spark plug may be "clean" is the guy had the block decked and wiped the numbers out... There might still be a pad on the passenger side of the block down near the oil pan rail toward the back of the block that would have the last digits of the vehicle's VIN it came out of.... I wouldn't complain, that's a good score nowadays! |

I was thinking along the same lines. I finally got the block cleaned off enough to see the numbers. I didn't realize they were still there. They read: 3 225 T(I think) 8 11E or 11F and then what looks like a clover or an iron cross. |
