Ok, current problem of the day:

Trying to get the power steering working in the outlaw and ran into a touch of a snag. I purchased a Cardone 20-6184 pump and it will not bolt up. The notch in the rear of the reservoir housing is too small and the offset doesn't line up with my bracket. I tried exchanging the new pump into the old reservoir housing and found that the physical diameter and dimensions of the 6184 are larger and will not fit.

Looking online I found a match to a Cardone 20-6129, but no one has it in stock. I phoned Cardone and they said it was an obsolete part and had been discontinued. They did not even have the capability or a kit to rebuild it.

Does anyone have or know a solution to this? Possible rebuild kits or compatible part numbers?

Contact Steer and Gear,, they rebuild and repair vintage steering boxes, I would not be surprised to find that also rebuild vintage pumps,,

You're fortunate to have had this problem; Cardone's stuff is junk.

when i had a similar problem (a split in the housing), i was delighted to see that my power steering pump was a trusty ol' saginaw. i found a junked chevrolet (always in abundant supply!) and it worked perfectly. the hei and the power steering pump are two of the best parts gm ever made.

note: you must change ALL of the internal parts over from your old unit, or you won't be happy with it. it must have the correct pressure. your original does. i hope you still have it to use. it's actually an easy fix.
