Curious how long your remflex manifold gaskets survive? I have about 15k on my rebuilt motor, the 2 manifolds were both Blanchard ground together, and I noticed for a while I developed an intake leak especially on #3-4 runners and possibly a couple more. I remember torquing manifold to the reccomended specs. Don't know remember the lb# but remembering it being quite low. I've torqued it a bit more up to 15 lbs now with no fix. I'm going to need to replace gasket. A bit bummed to get less then 15k out of a fancy gasket |

I'm at about 3 1/2 years. Not the slightest leak. What kind of intake? (Stock, Aluminum, aftermarket?) |

Are there any exhaust leaks as well? Also, were the manifolds separated after grinding and put back together? 3-4 are joined together... for those to leak after being ground together, the entire intake may be moved back from the exhaust. Any studs leaking coolant? Remflex don't like any liquid on them. |

Stock manifolds. Both were lightly snugged up to head, then torqued together with 3 bolts with a remflex gasket. Then Blanchard ground, then installed on head. Manifolds have never been off the car. No exhaust leaks i can tell, and no coolant leaks |

All sounds good there then... something else is amiss. Some have even gotten away with re-using the remflex if the manifolds come off clean. Any chance the intake has cracked? Or one of those porous e-beam welded units? |

This thread is timely for me so hope you dont mind me chiming in and asking questions in the same topic.... We tried using a green reusable gasket but have leaks so we are switching to a Remflex.... We used a brand new Dorman exhaust manifold and a used 2 bbl manifold we picked up local and the green gasket. When we did our test fit with the engine out, we assembled them to the head first and then tightened up the manifold to manifold bolts.....then removed as a unit from the engine for reinstall, then reinstalled the unit once engine was in the car......still had leaks..... We had checked the surfaces of the manifolds prior to installing and they seemed flush etc. Should we plan on having the manifolds planed anyways ? From all the talk I heard about the Remflex gaskets, the manifolds would have to be WAY out to have leaks.... Was hoping to have this be a one day job but dont want to have to do it a third time. Also -- what studs in the head are actually into water jackets? I was thinking for some reason they were all "dry"......?? |

Any idea how tight I can torque without worrying about cracking a manifold? I doubt it would help at all though. Think I'm at 15 lbs now |

Overtorque is not the answer. You need less torque with a Remflex gasket (5 lb·ft), not more. Torquing it tighter and tighter is a 'death spiral'. |

You might try savani machine on versalies avenue in mckeesport.. across from unimart. The machine /raceshop is around back on the bottom level They know their stuff and its not a wasted trip as it should be close for you. Greg |

There is no seemed... either it is or it isn't. You need to put them against a straightedge and use feeler gauges or hold light up to it and look for any escaping.Yes some gaskets may take out of whack manifolds better then others, but ultimately it's a crapshoot and delaying the inevitable. |

Since there is so little torque for the remflex (5-7 ft lbs) - , Dan, do you recommend a thread sealer for the nuts? And the package says that 1/16" gaps are no problem....truth? Any sort of sealer additional to the remflex recommended? |
