Post subject:  Gauge Voltage Limiter 1961 Plymouth Valiant
My fuel guage is playing up on my 61 Valiant. I have a full tank but the fuel guage is registering about an 1/16 full.

The temperature and amp guage seem to be ok.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

How do you fit the after market Gauge Voltage Limiter 1961 Plymouth Savoy Belvedere Fury Valiant OEM 2256280 and will this fix my problem?

The voltage limiter powers the fuel and temperature gauges. If the temperature gauge appears to be working properly but not the fuel gauge, I would check your fuel level sender first. Your float may have a leak and has sunk or the sender might have a bad ground.

I believe the early a-bodies had their voltage limiters built into their fuel gauges. It is possible to bypass this internal limiter with an external limiter but I would check the sender first.

Oops I forgot to ask - how can I improve the sender earth?

I have used the metal strip that attaches either side of the rubber fuel line but I think it is not a good earth.

You could attach a new ground wire to the nozzle on the sender with a gear clamp and then run the new ground wire to a good ground on the body.

In my case, to ensure a good ground when I replaced my fuel sender, I drilled and tapped a screw hole for a ground stud in the sender. The stud was a machine screw I screwed in from the inside of the sender. I covered the head of the screw with epoxy to prevent any leakage.

I ran a ground wire into a hidden part of my trunk and drilled & tapped a screw hole for a matching bolt. I then soldered a loop connector to each end of a ground wire.
