Post subject:  Oil For 225 Slant Six

I know this is going to sound like an absolute terrible newbie question. But, I am. I haven't owned a classic since they became classics. The last time I owned a slant six was in the 1980s.
Anyway, can I use full or partial synthetic oil in my 225 slant six? What oil is everyone else using?

I use full synthetic and it stays cleaner looking longer, and I change it about 3k or so miles.

Fopar is right on- 5W-30 synthetic if you can afford it.

This topic has been much discussed on here, but I have used synthetic oil since high school. I only use it once the engine is broken in, but never on a high mileage engine that ran on conventional oil. Did that once and it leaked like crazy. It washed away the goo that had been sealing it up.

Definitely.

If the engine is a high miler, just run conventional oil.

For Oregon 5w30 or 10w30 should be just fine...if it's a road oiler you can go to 10w40, but you will be looking to getting the engine rebuilt sooner than later....
