I was thinking of trying some autolite ar51's in my slant. I am using a pertronix ignition.

Why? What head type (peanut or tube) and what perf/buildup level and desired driving conditions?

No advantage -- only disadvantages, even if you don't have a radio.

Today's Autolite = Chinese-made junk. Use NGK ZFR5N (stock number 3459) gapped to 0.040". If your head is a '63-'74 item, remove the metal ring washer from each spark plug before you install it.
