Post subject:  HELP! Tips on removal of a904 rear cooler fitting

The rear cooler line fitting on my 1966 valiant is completely gacked and stripped, but I can't figure out how to get it out sans removal of the trannie. Anyone got any tips for that? The darn thing has a home in one of the most inconvenient of spots.

You may have to snip the line to allow getting onto flair nut with a female easy out. This is a gizmo with left hand twist thread that bites into a mangled nut or such that is used with a socket ratchet.

Something like this.

Than you can make a new line to replace the whole thing**, or splice onto the old line with new fittings and a short length of tubing.

** Replacement may cause more problems when removing the end fitted to radiator...

I already got the cooler lines out, it's the fitting in the transmission itself I can't get to. It's an elbow type and it's in a nasty spot lurking above the oil pan, muffler, and xmember

Sometimes get a little more room, by loosening the motor mounts a bit and removing the rear crossmember so you can lower the rear of the tranny a bit or use a jack to roll it a bit one way or another... (you may need to keep an eye on the exhaust, B&T joint, radiator hoses or firewall electrical, etc depending on how much room you need and how much "tilt"...)
