Post subject: | EGR valve cross reference? |
I was reading old threads looking for emissions control information and saw some good information posted by SlantSixDan. I'm kind of cut from the same cloth as him on my philosophy of keeping emissions stuff installed as long as it doesn't make the engine run worse or less reliably. I have the original EGR valve on my 74 Dodge and it appears to still work, but I'd like to get a more modern 'transducer' style one. He mentions part number EGV-490, which at the time of writing, cost 20 dollars. Those things are close to 50 bucks anywhere I've seen them online. Do any of you know if ANY style of EGR valve with the same mounting size would work? I'm thinking along the lines of part number EGV-138 at a cost of around 20 bucks. The part is for mid 90s Chrysler cars and looks like so: I'm just curious if these things are universal enough to get away with using the cheapest transducer style available or if I need to stick with looking for what RockAuto lists for my truck (non transducer style.) It makes sense to me that as time went on they added the transducer to limit the EGR effect to only when it was needed, and thus the engine should run slightly better? Honestly I haven't noticed my engine running any differently with/without the EGR valve hooked up. I made a sheet metal blanking plate. But I CAN tell that at idle after driving the exhaust smells worse like there's more NOx being created. So I'd like to install a new EGR valve with the transducer, but keep it cheap. Feel free to post any part numbers that you know work well and I'll search for deals. Thanks! |

No, they are not "If it fits, it works". Get the EGV-490. |
