| Post subject: | Replacement Bolts |
In my rebuild, I noticed some bolts were missing, some were broken, and some are old and crusty. Where can I get replacement bolts? I don't want to buy an entire bolt kit. I just need a few. Thanks |

Do you have an old fashioned hardware store around with bins of assorted bolts? Grade 5, Grade 8, stainless......... |

If you find someone selling a bolt kit for a slant six, let me know. I always just grab whatever fits from my bolt bucket(s). Seriously, if you don't have a collection of loose bolts, go to your local hardware store and get what you need in a grade 8 fastener. |

If there's a Tractor Supply in your area, then you've found a fastener supplier. They sell standard "grade 5" by the pound, and might even sell "grade 8" by the pound. Can't say for sure. I quote the grades for a reason, and I suspect you were advised grade 8 for the same reason. The influx of Chinese hardware, at a low price point, has cursed us with varying grades of hardware labeled as better than they actually are. I've read somewhere that a batch of grade 5 has been tested, and was found to roughly equal a grade 2 fastener. If your just get grade 8 bolts, you may at least come up to the grade 5 standards, or even better. Roger |

What fine thread bolts do you need on a slant six? The only thing I can recall on a slant is the outer end of the intake/exhaust manifold studs, and nuts. |

From what I've read (here on Slant 6) is that the crank bolt is 2.25" long, 3/4 x 16 threads per inch (fine thread). Everything I've found locally is 3/4 x 10 (coarse thread).

Here's another question. I have found the specs for the crank bolt. But, how do I find that specs for other bolts - e.g. the valve cover bolts? Length, width, TPI? |

One other place that has as large selection and many locations. Also this company will ship large auto parts, cabs, drive trains, doors etc. store to store for about half what trucking would charge on their trucks. |

and if you did want to consider an engine bolt kit, (on this particular kit, be careful with the intake / exhaust studs, the ones in this kit are fully threaded, they are not the fine-course thread combo with the non threaded center section like the oe studs, ) https://alloyboltz.com/catalog/product_ ... ts_id=1254 there may be better pricing available, this one was the first listing when I entered slant six engine bolt kit into google |
