Hi all,

On Saturday my old man is driving up to visit, so that together we can pick up my latest purchase: a 3 on the tree, slant six 1969 D100. I will admit I was unconvinced when I first laid eyes on the leaning tower or power, but after doing plenty of reading on this forum and elsewhere I'm really excited to own this unique, bulletproof motor.

I'll have plenty of questions in the future I'm sure, but for now I'd just like to share a picture of the new ride, featuring skeptical girlfriend and the PO.

Leaning towards a super six intake with either the BBD or Weber 38 as a first upgrade, possibly followed by Dutra duals and HEI ignition. More pics to follow... I'm hoping to drive this one daily! 8)

Welcome to the fun! I love those old D100s. Plenty of room under the hood to work on them. I would suggest as a first step is make sure it's safe- check the brakes, tires, master cylinder, look for rotted hoses and busted shocks, and be alert for worn suspension peices. No sense risking your life. Once those things are squared away the rest you can do in increments.

Thanks for the welcomes... Safety will definitely be priority #1. Couldn't wait until tomorrow, I went out to Robinson to change the battery ahead of the short trip, the heat nearly killed me (it's 110 degrees out here) but I snapped a quick pic.

Lots of work to be done.

It's the mint interior that really sold it on me.

Dad taught me how to drive the column shift today... I'm in love with this truck! Wish I could take a picture that does the interior justice. Like being inside a plushy blue submarine. Would you believe 70k original miles??? And paperwork dating back to the original sale to prove it.

Thanks all. Not sure if you guys are getting tired of the pictures but I did snap one that does the interior justice. More on topic to slants, started with preventative maintenance today. New fuel filter, fluids getting changed... Trying to avoid additives as a substitute for hard work, but I was told letting the carb soak in liberal amount of starter fluid overnight will clear out some varnish and improve drivability while waiting on a rebuild for the BBS. Thoughts?

Nice truck!

Starting fluid will evaporate quickly as will most fast acting solvents. Berryman Chemtool in the fuel is what I would use if you want a cleaner carburetor. You'll find it near the Seafoam, but at about 1/2 the cost.

Tried Berryman's with no luck, but it wasn't the product's fault. Further inspection revealed sticking float and completely spent accelerator pump. Rebuild kit on the way...
