so i got a bbd from a 273 or 318 on my 6 that i rebuilt and when i give it quicker throttle it dies and spits a little bit of gas. i'm not sure of the cause of this but i think it might have something to do with the jetting because its jetted for a v8 and not a /6 or something to do with my accelerator pump because it moves slow compared to the throttle linkage. anyone got any idea of what could cause this or what size jets i should be using on it?

Accelerator pump has to activate the moment throttle opens. If there is even a wee bit of throttle shaft movement before accelerator pump produces a squirt of fuel engine will go lean and stumble, and or feel like a flat spot, and or sputter/ back fire through carb. I'm sure there is different jetting (rods) for V8 vs /6 engines, someone will chime in with what those differences are and how to remedy the situation.

There are minor jetting differences between the slant six and the 318 BBD, but not enough to cause major driveability issues provided the rest of the carb is in good shape.

The main problem with using the 318 BBD on a slant is the choke linkage. A 318 choke linkage simply will not work properly with a slant six choke thermostat. No amount of choke thermostat rod bending will make it work.

Definitely get the accelerator pump working properly. Then make sure the metering rods are adjusted properly. BUt most important of all is to get the choke working properly. You can easily fabricate an adapter that will make the 318 choke inkage work with the slant choke thermostat rod. All you need is a piece of metal about 3/4-1 inch long with a hole drilled on each end that will allow a screw to attach it to the choke linkage on the carb and the choke thermostat rod to attach on the other end. Then adjust the angle of the adapter to get proper choke movement.

thats what i wat thinking when i tore everything open the spring for the accelerator pump was pretty weak so ill pick up a new one . anyone know if this'll fit a 70-74 bbd? i know it says thermoquad but it also is listed for a bbd
