Post subject:  1986 d150 charcoal canister

My charcoal canister failed on my 86 D-150 and caused a total disaster. Does anyone know of a reasonable replacement? Maybe a universal one? Anyone have one laying around? Need some help here. Thanks. :D

on the 83 D150, when the charcoal started finding its way into the carb I inserted a fuel filter into the vacuum line ahead of the carb.

it has been several years ago but I found a replacement charcoal canister at RockAuto.

John how did the filter in the vacuum line work? I have an 86 and would like avoid the Charcoal moving to the carb as well.

Ok Rick let me know. This thing blew out so bad a filter still wouldnt have worked. Charcoal just pours out of every nipple.

I did not get any bad effects from the filter addition and it stopped the charcoal from getting to the carb,

put a hand vacuum pump on a fuel filter, you won't be able to pull a vacuum, very little back pressure.

Slantsixdan has several times posted a link to modern new charcoal canisters that can be easily retrofitted to our old vehicles.

Last time I looked for one of those they were no longer available. I got one from a donor car and am planning to rebuild it something like this.
