Slant Six Forum :: Dyno/Simulation Software Recommendations?

I have Desktop Dyno 5, used the heck out of it when I was planning the slant motor build that is in the 83 D150. After everything was done and I ran the motor - truck on a chassis dyno, the shape of the torque and HP curves, the actual max values and the RPMs where max was hit was very closely aligned to what was predicted.
With all simulations, garbage in = garbage out.
For the inputs into Dyno Sim 5, I had the head that I ported flowed and I used actual port flow data, I was also very particular that the cam and ignition timing events that were inputted matched what was in the motor. Desktop Dyno 5 worked for me. I am using it to simulate the slant motor that I am building for the 68 Barracuda this winter.

Can anyone recommend a software to run some virtual engine builds? I know of DeskTop Dyno5, DynoSim5, Dyno 2000, and Virtual Engine Dyno - but don't have any experience with any of them. Looking to do some benchtop dyno tests with some potential engine changes over the winter. Thanks all - have a super weekend! -Chris

PipeMax has some pretty accurate results for inline engines. Most other dyno software is V8 oriented and doesn't give realistic output when applied to inlines. Plus, you get some awesome header building software with it also.

Me too, I got it specifically for the header design and was pleasantly surprised to see it had this included with it.

I used to use Performance Trends Engine Analyzer and Drag Racing Analyzer to predict performance and develop ideas to go faster. I thought it was quite accurate and easy to use. Mine was lost when I changed computers, the manuals I have were written in 1998, I am not sure if Performance Trends is even still around. I believe Mike Jeffrey also used this software.

I have Dyno 2000, and Dyno 5... did not like the fact that Dyno 5 needed an upgrade in price to unlock more features...and yet another upgrade price for more... I did buy it as a package with Drag 5 which will plug and play with dyno 2000 or 5 engine build files... both required about 10 years of data culled from being on this board and other slanters to be close to accurate... I was going to upgrade and go to Dyno Motion, but decided the money was better spent on motor parts than software...after real seat drag time and a few builds, you know where you are going to land and how far off the simulator is going to be.... The comical situation exists because of the the software being tailored to the V-8 crowd... I laughed at an initial slant build in dyno 2000 when I got it... then looking at the valve and flow values and finding the default was nice softball valves from a 351 Cleveland... boy you can tell how bad our head breathes once you enter in the stock flow values and you find the 300 HP NA monster really peters out to 190 HP at 5200 rpm... LOL FYI.
