Hello,
building a last year 1987 cast crank slant six motor and posting to share info on component weight and cylinder bore thickness.

1987 block with bearing caps and bearing cap studs, block is completely stripped,no cup plugs, no additional components:
hot tanked, cylinder bores .080 over,,, 145 LBS

1987 cylinder head, hot tanked, no valves, everything removed , bare head,,, 65 LBS

1975 cylinder head, hot tanked, no valves, everything removed, bare head,,, 74 LBS

1987 block cylinder bore thickness:
with an .080 over bore, thinnest bore was #6 at .149

ok, so what makes the 87 head lighter than the 75 head.
Also, was the 75 head a drool tube head ?

the 75 is an early peanut head,
I will post a photo of each tomorrow,
the 87 is really lightened out on the combustion face and other areas
