I made it to my first 24 Hours of Lemons race at Road Atlanta today.

It was a nice surprise to see this out on track.

Jason Ernst teamed up with some Soldiers from Fort Campbell (Wheel Team 6) to have fun making lots of trouble free laps.

I ain’t sayin’,... I’m just sayin’....

Jason’s Valiant did lap after lap with no issues other than a broken throttle cable that was easily remedied.

I got to meet SpaceFrank as well.

Good times for sure!

I'm glad that worked out so well. Jason originally pulled the Valiant out of that race because it had some issues, and he didn't have time to get it ready. Then when the guys from "Wheel Team Six" had their car unrecoverably flunked at tech inspection, he offered to let them use the Valiant instead since he only lives 30 minutes away. The race organizer let them race it under the other car's entry fee. None of those guys balled up the car, and Jason got some free track time! He even let me take a stint Sunday morning, since I was there driving a '61 AMC Rambler with some other Lemons regulars. Lemons ended up giving him the Organizer's Choice trophy, I think.

It was nice meeting you, Rob. I agree; if you've got no other plans for that car after you take off all the bits you need, race it! It doesn't have to be pretty, and it's a better fate than the crusher.

Yeah, it's crazy how that all came together. Sorry to miss it, and see all you Slanters in one place, but I really enjoyed my quiet weekend in the garage...

Next up, the Barber track in AL!

That would be "Hella Sweet!" if Jason got the Organizer's Choice trophy!! :D :D

The results haven't been posted yet. I'm looking forward to their "Lemons in a Nut Shell" race recap. When it is posted I'll put a link here for all to see.

Fun stuff!!

Road Atlanta is a very fun track, by the way. Insane elevation changes that Youtube videos don't do justice. One of the other teams with some fancy telemetry in their car measured an 80-foot drop from the top of the hill through Turn 12 to start-finish. Major pucker factor coming over that blind hill the first few times. The flaggers and safety crew were probably the best I've ever seen, too. My only real complaint is the sun in your eyes coming out of the esses late in the afternoon. I thought MSR-Houston was bad at sunset, but this was downright dangerous. The Lemons field was surprisingly responsible about slowing down early when everyone was getting blinded there.

I want to drive the Dart there badly, but with the schedule being what it is, I doubt we'll be able to make the Lemons race there next year.

You'll just have to fly out and drive a Valiant I guess...
