Maybe Lou or someone can help me out here, my new 80 Volare has some pretty bad understeer, has a factory front sway bar, the rear is just normal 4leaf and regular shocks, has 14" P205/70/14's on it but they are REALLY cheapo tires, i'll be putting some Goodyear performance (255/65/14's on the rear and 205's up front)

i'm thinking of putting the shocks on from my aspen, it had coil-over shocks in the back and handled nicely, any thoughts on this??

The way to deal with understeer is to either give the front more traction, or the rear suspension more stiffness. The big-n-littles are likely to make the understeer a bit worse. I would add either a rear sway bar (you can grab one off a Diplomat cop car for cheap) or something to stiffen the rear leaf springs - either extra leaves or coil-overs.

You mean frame connecters, right?

Justin, its me again. Check your ride height, the way that my Hunter alignment mach. at work says to do is measure from the head of the front K frame mount bolts to the ground, see that they are equal, should measure out to like 12-1/4" +/- 1/4". Also check the parts to make sure they are tight with no play, DON'T GO NUTS on this one, try to adjust the sector shaft on your gear box, will give you more "feel" of the road. Got a fact service manual? It don't necessarily have to be to an '80 Volare, this same description is identical for several years, they tell pretty decent how to do it. Problem is that if you overdo it the gears will eat each other up. Then, find a good alignment shop and let them do their thing. Again, too bad you aren't a little closer, I could help you out a bunch.

I'll also be installing a head that i've put ford 300valves in and also has been ported and polished, and decked .1". after that i'll put in a "17"second cam and a 2200stall converter i have

Volaredon - Thanks for the suggestion, i'll have to check that! yes i did get the factory service manuals when i bought the car, right now i'm just working on getting the body done for monday morning, once thats all done i'm in the clear to do the rest
