I am building a turbo grunt (towing) motor and would like some input on valve train options. I have mechanical and hydraulic assemblies at my disposal... so what are the pros and cons under this application ? |

I would probably opt for hydraulic as you are not going to use an aggressive cam, and it would not require periodic valve adjustments. Just make sure you set the lifter preload correctly while building. |

Do any of the hydraulic components pose a weak link or reduced service life as opposed to mechanical ? |

As long as the oil passages are clear and clean and all the parts are in good shape, you should probably go hydraulic for simplicity, as Charlie says. You will not rev it high and the stock or a near-stock cam should work very well. BTW, I just recall that you phoned me a while back and I never responded. My apologies. I'm also on board with the hydraulic cam. I once checked some aftermarket /6 hydraulic lifters for travel and they had a ton. 0.190" Here's my post: http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... el#p330962 |
