We worked on that car yesterday aft/eve at Jason's place and will head back to work on it within the hour... 7 AM now. We should be in tech inspection in the afternoon at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL and do some racin tomorrow and Sunday! Should a gallon of fun... (with a 1 gal engine) Lou |

Great times, but had an engine failure late Saturday when our 1/4-20 air cleaner bolt sheared and a 3/4" piece got digested by 4 different cylinders. wOOOHHw. Carnage and autopsy to follow. We actually ran it on 6 cyls for about 1 hr after that, then one piston must have been cracked and blew a hole. That brought us in, and we disabled those valves and ran as a Slant 5 for about 2 more hours until the motor essentially seized somewhere deep inside... 195 laps total and 66th place of 91 cars overall. A great weekend. The car really handles and stops well and was decent on power early on the first day. New motor in the works and we will return for the CMP race on April 28th! Sorry you did not get more "real" seat time with a good engine, Rob. Something to look forward to at CMP. Wonderful having you there as part of the team! Great to have Flyin' Brian there too! Jamie and Rae were also wonderful team members and hopefully we can have them drive again sometime. I made it home at 9:40 AM and just got to work... Lou |

Sounds like one heck of a good time Lou. Is there a post on here about the engine build that ate the air cleaner stud? What's in store for the new engines. Inquiring minds ya know? |

Old engine ("gen 2" - meaning not bone stock with a BBD): Re-ringed 1964 shortblock with no milling. Head with 1.70/1.44 valves with just a bit of porting and only a cleanup mill (0.010-0.020"), so compression about 7.8:1. Oregon 346 cam, Clifford 4V intake with 25 yr old Holley 500 2bbl. Clifford shorty headers with 2X2" into 2.5" exiting in front of the driver rear wheel. When it was fresh it probably made 180 HP? When we started on Saturday, I bet it was 150-160 HP or less due to several races of wear and tear. Engine plan ("gen 3"): I have a well ported head with 1.70/1.44 valves and 44 cc combustion chambers and we will put that on another older but good condition shortblock and use the same Oregon cam degreed around 100. ~ 9.5:1 comp and same induction and exhaust. Should be good for 200 HP. We have another shortblock to re-ring that we have run before as a backup. We are using a custom dropped/baffled/kickedout Aspen oilpan I built for my 64 Valiant that is now gone. 8-9 qts (a bit overfilled) gives rock solid oil pressure everywhere on the track. All this in front of a 10" truck clutch and 833 ball n trunion 4spd (all iron). Lou |

Made it home at 3:30 am today, dead tired and could barely keep my eyes open. I had an absolutely fantastic time! Except for having to mess with those pesky Clifford shorty header collectors (replacing gaskets) I am looking forward to CMP in April. Brian |
